Impact Reduction
Impact Reduction & Sustainability
At Trustella, we believe profitable commerce should minimize harm — to the climate, nature and people. This page outlines our commitments, measurable targets, and practical initiatives to reduce environmental and social impact across sourcing, packaging, logistics and product lifecycles.
Our sustainability vision
We aim to run a resilient e-commerce business that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, prevents waste, supports ethical supply chains, and contributes positively to local communities. Our approach is pragmatic, measurable, and continuously improving.
Core focus areas
- Measure & Manage: Quantify our carbon footprint and social impact using accepted methodologies and report progress annually.
- Sustainable sourcing: Prefer suppliers with environmental management, traceability, and fair labour practices.
- Low-impact packaging: Reduce material use, increase recycled content, and move to recyclable or compostable options.
- Logistics optimization: Consolidate shipments, select lower-emission carriers, and improve last-mile efficiency.
- Circular products & returns: Encourage reuse, repair, and resale options to extend product life and avoid landfill.
- Community & social investment: Support local supply chains, fair wages, and community projects in sourcing regions.
What we are doing today (initiatives)
1. Carbon measurement & reduction
We measure emissions across Scope 1–3 where feasible, prioritizing the largest sources (fulfillment centers, inbound freight, last-mile delivery). Key actions include:
- Baseline carbon inventory (annual) using recognized standards (GHG Protocol).
- Energy efficiency measures at warehouses (LED lighting, optimized HVAC schedules).
- Working with carriers offering low-emission services and consolidated routing.
- Pilot projects for electric vehicle (EV) last-mile deliveries in selected cities.
2. Packaging reduction & circular packaging
We aim to drastically reduce single-use packaging and increase circular design:
- Right-sizing packaging to reduce void fill and material use.
- Switching to recycled & recyclable materials (minimum 30% post-consumer recycled content target in 2026).
- Introducing reusable packaging pilots for high-frequency routes and subscription products.
3. Ethical supply chain & responsible sourcing
We require suppliers to meet basic labor and environmental standards, verified through documentation and audits where appropriate.
- Supplier code of conduct requiring fair wages, safe work environments, and no forced labor.
- Traceability efforts on key product lines to map origin and environmental hotspots.
- Preference for suppliers with recognized certifications (e.g., ISO 14001, FSC, Fair Trade) where relevant.
4. Product life extension & circular economy
Extending product life reduces raw material use and waste. Initiatives include:
- Repair guides, spare parts availability, and partnership with local repair networks.
- Certified pre-owned program and marketplace integrations to resell refurbished items.
- Trade-in and recycling take-back schemes for selected categories.
5. Social impact & inclusive practices
We invest in social outcomes that align with our operations:
- Fair procurement from small suppliers and SMEs in partner regions.
- Local hiring commitments at fulfillment centers and inclusive recruitment policies.
- Community partnerships (skills training, environmental restoration projects).
Targets & KPIs
We track progress with measurable KPIs and publicly report them annually:
Transparency & reporting
We publish an annual sustainability update with verified metrics, progress against targets, and a candid look at challenges and next steps. Reports include methodology, KPIs, and third-party assurance where applicable.
Partnerships & certifications
We collaborate with trusted partners to accelerate impact reduction:
- Logistics partners with low-emission service tiers
- Packaging innovators and recyclers
- NGOs and local organizations for community projects
- Third-party auditors for supply chain assessments
How customers can participate
Our sustainability work succeeds with customer participation. Ways to help include:
- Choose consolidated shipping and slower shipping options when possible.
- Opt for minimal or plastic-free packaging at checkout.
- Buy refurbished items or trade in old goods via our resale program.
- Follow our repair guides and support local repair services.
Governance & accountability
Sustainability is embedded in our governance. Key practices:
- Executive sponsorship with clear responsibilities and published targets.
- Cross-functional sustainability working group (operations, sourcing, product, marketing).
- Annual review and board reporting on environmental and social performance.
Metrics we publish
Metric | Frequency | Notes |
---|---|---|
Scope 1–3 emissions (tCO₂e) | Annual | GHG Protocol methodology where applicable |
Packaging weight & recycled content | Quarterly | Includes upstream packaging for products shipped |
Share of refurbished/resold items | Quarterly | Tracks circular program performance |
